Haunted Tree is an optional quest that can be acquired by talking to Oaka IV next to the Icy Realm waypoint after Dwarf Disappearance has been started.
Objective
Oaka IV asks you to exorcise the spirit haunting the snowless tree in the Icy Realm. The tree is at the foot of the huge snowy mountain where Echele is located. The spirit floating around the tree cannot be targeted by attacks or abilities, but approaching with the Shimmering Pendant will absorb the spirit. This transforms the Shimmering Pendant into the Spirit Pendant which can be used to fight Dark Fact.
Report back to Oaka IV (it is not required to bring the pendant to him) to complete the quest and Oaka IV will cut either a northern or southern patch of trees.
The northern secret area can be reached with a red or white Chocobo as they can fly over the trees, and the south section can be accessed as per normal with the Winter Key from Mateus. However, it should be noted that opting to cut the south trees allows going to the demon gate without fighting Mateus which is necessary for True Echele as Mateus is a Zodiac Brave.
Rewards and Unlocks
- 2500 EXP and 3000 Gold
- You can tell Oaka IV to cut some trees in either the north or the south part of the Icy Realm.
- North unlocks the Zodiac Spear if there are no broken breakable objects (barrels, tents, etc.).
- South is a shortcut to Hashmalum and is a necessary step to fight True Echele.
