For every Secret Barrel that is killed, a variable is incremented by two.
When a Fading Note is set to drop, the note which will drop is calculated by: (GetRandomInt(1,5)+(udg_SecretBarrels*2))
In other words, the minimum is one (SecretBarrels=0, 0+1=1), and the maximum is 25 (SecretBarrels=10, 10*2=20, 20+5=25). An array is filled with 25 possible secret notes, and then this calculated value is used to determine which note will drop. Each barrel unlocks two more secret notes.
Only one note can be dropped at the same time.
Notes disappeare 45 seconds after obtaining them, except the twenty-third note, which lasts 120 seconds (presumably so you have time to decipher it.)
Transcriptions of every note:
Why did Master Trema just leave us here like that?! All the information I've gathered, all the manuscripts I've written, all the spheres I've recorded, they're all just gone! I hope he rots at the bottom of some dark dungeon!
I'm feeling increasingly uneasy about the current situation. Not just that Trema left us, but there's something else... I can't really describe it. I feel hatred growing inside of me.
Apparently there are hidden blue barrels scattered over the world, one per area, ten in total. But I've spent months trying to find them, and I have yet to find one! Who hid them anyways, some sick twisted developer?! If I ever manage to find one, it'd probably lighten my mood.
Yo has gone insane. Just insane. He went and got every single Eidolon to do his bidding and he actually made dark copies of them! And now he's lost control of them. Great. At least he sealed them away in a parallel world. Ramuh decided to keep them away until he found someone who could dominate the Eidolons the same way Yo could. Maybe he can kill those copies.
Another one went completely mad today. Nilrem summoned evil abominations in front of the entire team. We had to fight him off, but we couldn't subdue him. Why would madness take over the weakest among our Order?
After examining the obelisk, we have come to the conclusion that the runes are supposed to symbolise four elements. Maybe something happens when you put the representative symbols of those four elements on the runes. Nobody really cares though, as everyone's still trying to figure out why those red golems love Arcanium so much.
I miss Spira. Gaya is a beautiful world, but there's no place like home, you know? I wonder if Trema felt the same way. Everyone say he went mad, just like the others did... but I don't know. I don't think Trema would've given in to madness.
Something weird happened yesterday. I fought some monsters on the island in the center, and after some time, a hydra approached me. It didn't show any signs of hostility, so I didn't attack it. In fact, all it wanted was some Tropical Essense. I didn't have any on me, so I left. Weird, isn't it?
Back on Spira, there was a traitor to the church. Omega was his name. Well apparently he has multiple incarnations, because I remember he was sealed in Spira, but he's in Gaya as well. I don't know, this is confusing. How do I get to his island anyways? You'd need a portal, but there's no Frog of Qu around here.
So according to some samurai we found his master trained on an island in the southeast. But the southeast is completely sealed off ever sense. Yo locked his master creation, The Judge, there. You'd need like a really good chocobo to get there now.
Clemydar found out how to make the ultimate healing herb! I was really surprized when he told us all you needed was a Treant Twig, some Lizard Skin, and a few Harpy Feathers. I guess people only made them on accident before... what kind of sense does that make?
Enchanting bad gas with magic scrolls and very evil books creates Soul Powder. But if you want to get the Empyreal Soul, you need something people here call a Wild Cry AND a Unique Ice Shard? Man, you sure have to go through a lot of trouble. Is it even worth it, I wonder...
The uses of Scarletite are apparently limitless. Say you combine it with toxin and a sphere, you get a crystal! And not a shard, I mean an actual crystal. And if you really want to, you can use dark stuff to curse the crystal. How did Clemydar find these things out by himself, they don't make any sense?
Remember the Healing Herb? Well if you put it into a glass made of Adamantite and clean two Dark Crystals with it, they fuse together and form a liquid. Some kind of Super Elixir. I don't know. Might be useful if you and some friends are in deep trouble.
It took us months and months, but we finally lifted the secret of Adamantite! Who'd have thought you could repair broken Adamantite with Death Seekers infused into Diamond Steel and Sharp Rocks? Well, studying for months would do that to you.
What is up with this Mae'Chen person? He's from Spira just like we are, but how does he know all the stuff he's talking about. Trema told him some of our best knowledge about this world, so maybe he will become a Seeker as well one day?
I always thought it was a lamp, not an urn. And wasn't it devil, not Satan? I guess you can't trust a guy called NORG to give you flawless information. Besides, the only place it opens is the Dark Dragon Marsh. We're going to try to why that is tomorrow.
Whoever reads this, know this! The world watches your every move! It rewards you as it sees fit, and one way to really get rewarded is to alternately kill monsters from two regions, one from here then one from there and so forth. I also found a cute little turqoise guy doing this. Don't know if he's even from this planet.
12 hours, was it? Well here it's 12 minutes! Getting to the icy summit this fast is almost impossible! You'd really have to make everything perfectly to do this. I wonder if there's a third sword that King Arthur owned once, but probably not.
Wen says he found a strange note. Someone encrypted it like it was straight out of Zanarkand. Mae'Chen also suspected it had a relation to the Hymn of the Faith. I solved it and thought it was terribly made. I have a manuscript of how it should have been laying around here somewhere.
Wen says he actually found all ten barrels. There is one per monster-filled region, and even one in Kalm. They're usually inside groups of trees or in some rocks or in a cave or off a cliff or in some shallow water, something like that. It seems many of them can't even be really seen if you just look from top down, you have to change your angle.
So that strange, invisible box in the marshes? Yeah, I say if you're the most hardcore adventurer who fears no challenge, not even death, it has something awesome inside. There's also some spear of stars that you can only get if you're a relatively tough guy and you don't need treasures. This world is really really weird.

Ok so here's how it's done: you pretend it's all japanese. Then you can see every word is made up of 8 symbols. The 1st and the 5th belong in the first sentence, the 2nd and 6th in the second sentence, and so forth. Just do this for every word except for the last one and you'll form phonetic sentences that give you instructions. My version of the note is so much better.
That Al-Bhed child, I don't trust him. I think his ultimate plan is to become the most powerful being ever. That's all he cares for. He wants to ultimately absorb Omega's power, I'm pretty sure.
This is a clue about the Secret Barrels, letting you know where they are.
This is a clue about the Dark Eidolon challenge. Also, someone called Yo apparently created them, and he also created Penance. The dark eidolons drop the marks, which form the perfect mark of darkness, so you can know that the mark of darkness is linked to Penance somehow.
